June 11-12 Weekender: Block Party, Music for All Ages and Ocean Avenue History Tour

Saturday, June 11

YMAC 25th Birthday Block Party: Coleman Advocates’ annual block party will celebrate Youth Making a Change’s 25th anniversary this year. “There will be a BBQ, bouncy house, a 3×3 basketball tournament, a dunk tank, henna, face painting, a smoothie bike, and a ceremony celebrating Kindergarten, 5th grade, 8th grade and 12th grade graduates,” according to a press release.

When: Saturday, June 11, 1-5 p.m.

Where: 459 Vienna Street, between Brazil and Persia

 

Sunday, June 12

Ocean Avenue History Walk: Westside historian Woody LaBounty will lead a history walk on Ocean Avenue during Ocean Avenue Association’s Second Sundays. See historic buildings, hear about colorful local pioneers, and walk in the footsteps of dog racers, gamblers, refugees from the 1906 Earthquake, and early aviators.

When: Sunday, June 12, 2-3:30 p.m.

Where: Meet at the Ingleside Branch Library garden gate

 

All-Ages Live Music: As part of the Ocean Avenue Association’s Second Sundays, the Ingleside Branch Library Garden will host Alphabet Rockers and Dave Rocha Quartet. Dancing is encouraged!

When: Sunday, June 12, 1–5 p.m.

Where: Ingleside Branch Library Garden, 1298 Ocean Ave.

 

Mark Your Calendar for Next Weekend!

Ridge Lane Ribbon Cutting Ceremony: Join the Ridge Lane Neighbors to celebrate the opening of the new walkway and community mini park.  Come meet your neighbors and find out how you can get involved in the next phases of work to improve and beautify this local connecting route.

Where: Howth and Josiah avenues

 

Ocean Avenue Craft Beer Bar Crawl: The first Ocean Avenue Craft Beer Bar Crawl benefitting the nonprofit Geneva Office Building and Powerhouse will have tasty brews and live entertainment. Tickets are available now for $20 and give holders access to $2 craft beers and $3 shots. The Light is proud to sponsor this event.

When: Saturday, June 18, 2-6 p.m.
